Privacy policy
This policy describes how Certly collects, uses and protects your information when you use the Certly mobile application. By using the app, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
What we collect
Information you provide. If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address and a display name, used for authentication and for syncing your progress between your own devices. We also store your study data: answers to practice questions, simulation results, streaks, bookmarks and achievement progress.
Information collected automatically. Basic device information such as device model, operating system version and an advertising identifier, used for serving ads and for aggregate analytics. Purchase status for the ad-removal in-app purchase, which is verified through Apple.
What we never collect. We do not collect your real name, phone number, postal address or payment details. We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location. We do not sell or rent your personal data.
What stays on your device. Anything you type into the Prompt Lab is graded locally and is never transmitted or stored on our servers.
How we use it
- To run the app: tracking your progress, scheduling reviews and scoring simulations.
- To sync your progress across your devices, if you have created an account.
- To send a daily study reminder, only if you turn that reminder on.
- To verify and restore the ad-removal purchase.
- To serve ads in the free version, and to improve the app through aggregated, anonymized usage data.
Storage and security
Your study data is stored on your device. If you create an account, it is also stored in our backend, which runs on Supabase and uses industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards against unauthorized access, alteration or destruction, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
The question bank itself is public content and is downloaded without any account.
Third-party services
Certly relies on a small number of third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Supabase, for authentication, content delivery and data storage.
- Google AdMob, for advertising in the free version, together with Google’s User Messaging Platform for consent.
- Apple, for app distribution and for processing in-app purchases through StoreKit.
Advertising
The free version of Certly shows banner and occasional interstitial ads served by Google AdMob. Depending on your region, you will be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown, and you can change that choice at any time from within the app.
You can also limit ad tracking system-wide in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security. The one-time ad-removal purchase stops all advertising in the app permanently.
Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we delete the personal data associated with it within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it. Data held only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
Your rights
You may access, correct or delete your personal data, export your study data, turn study reminders off at any time from the app or from iOS Settings, and request deletion of your account and everything associated with it. To exercise any of these, write to the address in the contact section below.
Children
Certly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here and inside the app, with a new effective date. Continuing to use Certly after a change means you accept the updated policy.
